New Jersey Warrior: Amanda, age 32

hard-working, optimistic, self-reliant

Congratulations, Amanda!

Amanda was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at six months of age. As a child she followed all her prescribed treatments and stayed very active. As life got busier (in college), her health became more of an issue as time was scarce and she wasn’t able to travel with her airway clearance vest.

Since graduating and starting her career, Amanda has been fiercely independent - managing her time, her bills, and her health care. Today, she works as a supervisor for a utility and works 8-10 hours a day. Outside of work she exercises at least 4 days a week and supports local fundraising events.

Most of us struggle to find a healthy work-life balance. Amanda, like most people with chronic disease, adds healthcare to that balance. While she has worked hard to comply with her physician’s orders, she has struggled to get all her airway clearance therapy in. She is permitted time at work to do treatment, but because her vest isn’t portable, she often has had to skip that critical daily routine. And, because Amanda is wholly dependent on her income, taking too many sick days isn’t possible, so treatment compliance is critical to maintaining her health. Today, she looks forward to using her AffloVest at work and when she travels so she can complete all the treatments she requires each week without compromising her job.

Words can’t fully describe Amanda’s determination and drive. She is truly a warrior - a strong, independent woman who refuses to let cystic fibrosis stop her from pursuing her dreams. We are so proud to include her as part of the Legacy Project family.

amanda’s Legacy Day!

Everyone was excited that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway invited Amanda to meet its cast and watch the two-part play! Colton, Cassie and representatives from AffloVest were proud to present Amanda her AffloVest with select cast in a VIP room before the show. Our sponsors, AffloVest, the Joyce Family Foundation, and American Airlines were able to help provide Amanda some fun outside of work and a weekend to remember!

The following day, the New Jersey Devils welcomed Amanda and the Legacy Foundation to the Prudential Center for a Bootcamp fitness fundraiser where Amanda was the guest of honor!
