California Warrior: Buster, age 5
funny, happy, active

Buster’s warrior status was established before he was born because his parents started fighting for him at 21 weeks of pregnancy. Michael and Laurel Douglas, upon learning of Buster’s cystic fibrosis diagnosis, were determined to appreciate every moment of the pregnancy and Buster’s life as nothing but a blessing.
Buster’s parents started the research immediately in an effort to provide every opportunity for their baby. “We were immediately grateful to all of the parents and researchers who paved the way before us,” Laurel recalled. With the support of care givers, family and the CF community, they found hope.
As young, new parents, Michael and Laurel didn’t have the financial resources to make significant donations to help fund research and awareness initiatives. “But we knew we could tell our story,” said Laurel. “Every time we share our family’s journey, we spread awareness. We learned quickly that with awareness comes dollars and with dollars comes science.”
No matter what, Buster and his family fight for normalcy even though they know that their normal routines don’t look like many others. Their fight was to ensure that CF does not define Buster or their family. “There are hundred other parts to Buster and he is braver than he will ever understand. We can all take a lesson in positivity, bravery, flexibility and determination from Buster.”
Buster’s parents support him fully but also focus on his independence. They encourage him to active (which has been pretty easy for Buster) and educate him on CF so he has all the tools he needs to fight CF every day and prepare for the future.
buster’s Legacy Day - red carpet treatment!
Because of his love of sports, Colton invited Buster to join him on the red carpet at a charity basketball game hosted at UCLA prior to the ESPY awards. Buster and his family were prepared for a fun night and to sit court side at the game, but were surprised with the AffloVest presentation on the red carpet!
Buster’s parents are excited for him to use the AffloVest to further encourage his activity and focus on treatment compliance. No doubt this particular AffloVest is going to see a lot of football!
